Home Affordability
(28/36)

Lenders size a mortgage against two ratios. The front-end ratio caps your housing payment at a share of gross monthly income, and the back-end ratio caps housing plus every other debt payment. This calculator runs both, takes the smaller answer, and works backwards from that payment to the loan and purchase price it supports. The interest rate is yours to enter, since nothing here connects to the network.

Data: 2026, ratios are lender convention, not statute; interest rate is user-supplied

Cash & Loan Terms STEP 2

This rate is not fetched from anywhere. It is a starting figure you should replace with the rate you were actually quoted. Nothing on this page touches the network.
Housing Costs & Ratios STEP 3
Applies when the down payment is under 20%
The classic 28. Conventional underwriting often allows more.
The classic 36. Many programs allow 43 or higher.

A lender's underwriting will differ from this estimate. Debt-to-income ratios, credit history, reserves, and program guidelines all factor into a real approval.
